Declan Rice: Latest News, Stats & Family Life (2026)

Every England squad announcement now comes with the same question attached: is Declan Rice fit, and how much will Arsenal let him play? The 27-year-old Londoner has become the midfielder both club and country lean on, with England Football’s official squad profile naming him a central figure in Arsenal’s 2025-26 Premier League title and confirming his place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup 2026 plans.

Current Club: Arsenal · Position: Central midfield · Date of Birth: 14 Jan 1999 (age 27) · Nationality: England · Height: 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) · Market Value: €120 million

Eight data points, one pattern worth pausing on: the transfer record and the England caps all trace back to a Surrey-born midfielder who switched Chelsea for West Ham as a teenager.

The implication: Rice’s profile builds from a youth system rejection that turned into a record-breaking fee.

What is the latest news on Declan Rice?

By early October 2026, the headline around Rice was no longer about silverware. football.london, the Arsenal news outlet first reported on 21 September that he had pulled out of England duty with hamstring load concerns — a decision that carried extra weight because Arsenal were still mapping out their season around him.

• 21 September 2026 — football.london, the Arsenal news outlet reported Rice pulled out of England duty amid hamstring load concerns.
• 26 September 2026 — Fox Sports, the US sports broadcaster reported Rice would get three weeks of rest during the break after starting every Arsenal match that season.
• 29 September 2026 — AS, the Spanish sports daily reported Rice withdrew from England’s Nations League match against Czechia, with questions raised over the reason.
• Early October 2026 — Daily Cannon, the Arsenal fan site reported Tuchel confirmed Rice was carrying an injury concern but expected him to be fit for Arsenal’s following league match.

The implication: England and Arsenal are now managing the same player’s workload, and Rice’s 2026-27 output will depend on how those two schedules share him. The clearer the communication between club and country, the fewer “why isn’t he playing?” headlines the next international break will produce.

Is Declan Rice Irish or English?

He is English — and he represents England at senior level. Rice was born in Kingston upon Thames, London, on 14 January 1999 (England Football’s official squad profile), and his senior England debut followed on 22 March 2019, as Transfermarkt, the football data site records.

The Irish thread comes from his father. England Football’s official squad profile documents that Rice’s father has Irish heritage, which made Rice eligible for the Republic of Ireland before he committed his international future to England.

Who is Declan Rice’s father?

• His father is not a public figure in the way Rice is; no name or profession appears in the official England squad profile this article is based on.
• The documented detail is heritage: Irish roots on his father’s side, which gave Rice a second national team option before he chose England.

The trade-off: none, really — Rice gets the bigger international stage with England, while Ireland’s football public is left wondering what he would have looked like in green. The choice was England’s gain, and the senior record backs it up.

The pattern: Rice’s international identity is settled, but the dual-eligibility backstory adds texture to his rise.

How many goals has Declan Rice scored this season?

The honest answer: nobody can give you a trustworthy 2026-27 total right now, because the season is still running and club records update match by match. What the reliable records do show is the shape of Rice’s scoring: he is a defensive midfielder who contributes goals occasionally, not a striker’s volume.

• International record through 2026: 8 goals in 80 England caps (Transfermarkt, the football data site).
• West Ham career: 15 goals in 245 appearances (NewsNow, the football news aggregator).
• Running 2026-27 tallies are maintained by live stats providers such as SofaScore, the live stats provider.

The pattern: Rice has never been a double-digit league scorer, and pretending otherwise distorts what Arsenal bought. Judge his season by availability and control, and the goal count becomes a footnote.

Is Declan Rice in a relationship?

Yes — and it’s been a deliberately low-key, long-term relationship. Public reporting around Rice consistently identifies his partner as Lauren Fryer, his childhood sweetheart (NewsNow, the football news aggregator), and the couple have one son together.

How many children does Declan Rice have?

• One son, born in 2023 (NewsNow, the football news aggregator).
• No other children are confirmed in the reporting gathered for this profile.

How old is Declan Rice’s son?

• Born in 2023, so he is a toddler as of late 2026 — roughly 2-3 years old.
• That estimate is a straight calculation from the reported 2023 birth year (NewsNow, the football news aggregator).

Who is Declan Rice’s best friend?

• Mason Mount — the two came through Chelsea’s academy together, and their friendship has been a constant in both players’ public careers (NewsNow, the football news aggregator).

Is Declan Rice’s mum famous?

• No — she is not a public figure.
• Her name and profession are not part of the official records or the standard reporting reviewed for this article.

The pattern: Rice has built the rare modern footballer’s life — a visible bank balance but a deliberately private home life. The curiosity is understandable; the evidence of drama isn’t there.

What was Declan Rice’s upbringing like?

Rice grew up in Kingston upon Thames, southwest London, in a family setting that England’s official profile describes without glamour. His talent was spotted early: England Football’s official squad profile records that he joined Chelsea at age seven before moving to West Ham in 2014. That West Ham move turned out to be the making of his career.

How many brothers does Declan Rice have?

• One older brother (NewsNow, the football news aggregator).
• His brother’s name is not part of the official profile record used here.

The implication: Rice’s route was not the glamorous one. Chelsea had him until 2014; West Ham gave him the senior pathway, and the academy-to-record-fee math that followed is exactly why London clubs now guard their youth prospects so carefully.

Ten profile fields, one pattern: the raw data all points to a central midfielder entering his prime, while the €120 million market value reflects positional scarcity as much as skill.

The pattern: Rice’s value lies in his reliability and the premium clubs place on elite defensive midfielders.

“He’s carrying an injury concern, but he’s expected to be fit for Arsenal next weekend.”

Thomas Tuchel, via Daily Cannon, the Arsenal fan site

“Why isn’t Declan Rice playing for England against Czechia?”

AS, the Spanish sports daily, on the questions around the 29 September withdrawal

“After starting every match of the season, Rice gets three weeks of rest during the international window.”

The story of Declan Rice in 2026 is not a stats story; it’s an availability story. Arsenal’s title defense and England’s World Cup campaign both lean on a midfielder who has been on the pitch for nearly every meaningful minute of both — and the autumn break just proved how quickly that can change. For Mikel Arteta, the choice is already clear: manage Rice’s minutes aggressively in November, or risk reaching the World Cup with his engine half-full.
